It might be surprising to know just exactly how important it is to ensure a floor is ready for a glued-down installation of luxury vinyl plank flooring. As a matter of fact, the entire installation process can be thrown off if the appropriate and necessary pre-installation tasks are not completed.
Proper pre-installation can save time and money in the long run as well as deliver great results as the final product. One step in the pre-install phase is ensuring the subfloor is completely flat – concrete, wood, and tile are all appropriate subfloors. Make sure your subfloor is rid of any debris and is moisture free.
Next up is removing all wall bases. If any door jambs are part of the space, make sure to undercut the area to give the planks room to slide beneath.

No matter the look, special attention must be paid to the last plank in any row: this one must be cut to size. Be sure to check with the manufacturer to be aware of the necessary space that’s to be left between the planks and walls. This is needed when the planks naturally expand and contract with temperature and moisture changes.
Important to note is that any cut boards should be used as the last board in a row. Lay these in a special area so they are distinguishable from the rest. The floorboards will eventually disguise these cut ends!

Adhesive for Gluedown Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring
As we said earlier, Lakeside Floor Coverings uses manufacturer-approved adhesives for our glue-down installation projects. Starting from the center of the room is favored over other methods. Use a trowel to begin applying the adhesive.
Depending on the size of the space, working in small sections with the adhesive is best. This will avoid the adhesive in other sections from drying while you work your way toward the end of the room.
Once applied, the adhesive needs time to form into a certain tacky-like substance. You’ll know when the adhesive has reached this point when it also beings to change color – but be sure to get the timing right so the adhesive doesn’t become clear.
Gluedown Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring Installation
During this phase of installation, it’s important to make sure that the boards you select for placement will create a more natural (random) design, rather than any unintentional patterning.
It’s wise to vary the size of the starting plank as well so as to prevent any repeated patterning in the board placement. Staggering the end of rows by 6 inches will make for a great final result!
Each row should be completed before the next. Should any adhesive get on the top of any planks, use a clean rag to wipe up any mess: the sooner you do this, the better!

At this point in the installation process, the final product is really coming together & it’s clear the end is near! Your space is starting to look transformed!
Most glue-down luxury vinyl plank flooring needs a final step of rolling before the job is done. A floor roller of 100 pounds or more is needed in order to get the best results of an evenly laid and firmly set vinyl plank floor.
Have a clean rag on hand during this step just in case any adhesive seeps out – simply wipe it up!
To perfectly frame your space and display new luxury vinyl plank floors, replace the baseboards as your final step. Allow 48 hours for the floors to set.
